When two nations are united into one, bloodshed is almost impossible to avoid. That’s because one side will inevitably try to force the union through violence. In Germany’s case, it was a remarkable achievement by human society to achieve a bloodless unification despite two completely different political systems. Witnessing this firsthand was an immense enrichment for me. I was deeply moved at the time and thought, “A peaceful revolution is possible!” I wrote about this enthusiasm in my diary every day and later tried to translate it into sound – the result was the Berlin Diary. This time, for the first time, a Polish pianist will take on this challenge.
