Still leaning – 4 degrees
When I saw the Tower of Pisa for the first time, I was overwhelmed not by its tilt, but by its size. At the time, people said the tower would soon cease to exist. But today it still stands – with a tilt of 4 degrees – and you can even climb to the top.
The first movement of my composition “Essay on the Tower of Pisa with an Epilogue” for guitar duo symbolizes the tower collapsing extremely slowly – in slow motion. Then in the part of epilogue I run through the tower at high speed, afraid that it could crumble at any moment.
The courageous guitar duo in Tokyo dares to explore the interior of the tower and attempts to transform my feelings into sound.
