Arbeit am Schmäh

Arbeit am Schmäh – this is the title of the concert by the ensemble “Reihe Zykan” in Vienna.

My composition “Bauhäuslerinnen” is ironically – and tragically – dedicated to the absurd chapter in Bauhaus history in which female students were systematically marginalized.

At the time, it was indeed the case that architecture was not for women – because, according to the steep thesis, they lacked a sense of space. (“Just imagine!”) The piece musically exposes the “Schmäh” of male society – pointedly, vocally, with a powerful wink and a hint of bitter truth – performed by the Zykan vocal quartet.
