Da Pacem

When we hear the American president say, “Only the strong can secure peace,” I ask myself:

What will become of us? What remains for the vulnerable?
Neither prayers nor peace demonstrations matter to him.

But when we pray, protest, or sing for peace, we feel renewed strength. It is not arsenals of weapons that secure our spiritual peace, but the indescribably beautiful power of music.

That is why I continue to go to demonstrations—and write music.
