Encounters can begin and end in an instant. After being very impressed by Makiko’s koto playing, I composed a piece for recorder and koto for her. After that, a small piece for koto and quartet was created for Rapauke’s children’s music series. I was often overwhelmed by how energetic she was, because she drived to Berlin from Holland with five or six kotos in her own car. Last year she left without saying goodbye. It sounds very symbolic that I wrote a piece for her called “Only my voice remains”. The memorial concert for Makiko will finally take place.
