Arnold Schönberg and Ingeborg Bachmann

Even more exciting is the relationship between Arnold Schönberg and Ingeborg Bachmann. It is not a personal relationship or
friendship, but rather a musical and literary connection that spans time.

The Schönberg Center Vienna announces the concert as follows:

“O ancient scent from a fairy-tale time …”—the title of the
final piece from Schoenberg’s melodrama cycle “Pierrot lunaire” establishes, with a musical quotation from the spoken recitative, a leitmotif at the beginning of Ingeborg Bachmann’s “Malina.” On the occasion of the poet’s 100th birthday, composers are exploring the work of one of the most significant authors of the 20th century.”
