City Fox

In Berlin you will often encounter beautiful foxes with their bushy tails. The poet Synke Köhler meticulously observes the cityscape, and wrote a love poem about the fox. I was reminded of the Japanese children’s song “Little Wild Fox on the Mountain”, and so I reflected Synke Köhler’s poem in that song. Originally I wanted the piano to merely accompany the singing voice, but in my composition the piano part has a lot to say: it is the framework of the song and it is the protagonist, the big city. The fox – the singing voice – appears on the streets, in between the piano parts, in unexpected ways.
