I’m a West Berliner

I’ve been living in Berlin since 1986—specifically in West Berlin. It’s funny how people still emphasize the West. But once a West Berliner, always a West Berliner.

My diary entries from 1989 to 1990 are fascinating, both personally and politically. Those were deeply moving days, both inwardly and outwardly. I’m fortunate that Yoriko Ikeya continues to perform pieces from my diary, which consists of ten piano pieces. Whenever I hear her play, those days come back to life.
