Potsdamer Platz
Back when weeds still grew on Potsdamer Platz and my son played football there with his classmates, the only buildings in sight were St. Matthew’s Church and the Berlin Philharmonie.
Potsdamer Platz is a symbol of historical transformation: St. Matthew’s once stood in the heart of the Tiergarten district, followed by the Nazi plans for the “World Capital Germania,” devastation during World War II, the division of Berlin, reunification, and finally reconstruction.
The collaboration with the Berlin Women’s Vocal Ensemble at St. Matthew’s holds great meaning for me — not only musically, but also politically.
