What did Mosab Abu Toha hear in his childhood? The Palestinian poet was born in a refugee camp in Gaza. The chirping of birds and the sound of tanks are present at the same time—and his finely tuned ear distinguishes between them. He heard Arabic dance music in the backyard while bombs were falling. His poem “Things You May Find Hidden in My Ear” emerged from such memories.
I am delighted that the fantastic Greek guitarist Yorgos Pervolarakis will premiere this piece. He will play the guitar and recite the poem at the same time.
I hope that Mosab Abu Toha—I don’t know where he is right now—can feel his poem floating across the sea.
