Playing at the periphery

Zepernick is located on the outskirts of Berlin. Berlin composer Helmut Zapf organizes a music biennial there called “Randspiel” (Edge Play) for contemporary music: Let me hear joy and gladness, that my bones may be glad again, which you have broken… (Psalm 51)

There is simply too much broken in the world and also in Berlin’s independent music scene. Can we become joyful again by making music and listening to music? I’m not sure. It is quite clear that composing, making music, and listening to music is our daily bread.

Gaby Bultmann is performing “Hildegard in Kabul” again. A lament. Please listen! To be not too angry.
