Ursula or Alusru

To survive as a composer I need humor, self-criticism, and stamina. When I read the biography of Ursula Mamlok (I had already been familiar with her music) I was impressed by her tenacity and positive attitude in life. It isn’t a musical homage, but the idea of mirroring. That’s why I gave my composition her name, Ursula, and Alusru (her name backwards). What happened was a fortuitous surprise: the piece won 1st prize at the International Female Composer Awards from GEDOK BV., commemorating the 150th birthday of Ida Dehmel.
